A tedious journey is often the dreaded part of any holiday, but we list some ways to make your flight go faster. You may wish to organise a few essentials and accessories before your trip to keep you entertained.

Regardless of how exciting the holiday is anticipated to be, it’s rare that anybody enjoys a long flight. It can be exciting or even scary for some during the take-off but the rest of the time can be hard to endure. But with a little preparation and a few ideas, you can make your time in the air far more pleasant.

Here are six ways for you to enjoy your long-haul flight:

What’s On?

The most obvious method to keep yourself occupied during a flight is to watch the movies available to you. With modern technology continuously evolving we now have more than movies than ever to enjoy on the plane. This depends on what airline you are flying with, but during long-haul journeys, we now have the option of the latest films and even a whole directory of TV series.

Begin to plan your journey’s entertainment; you may watch three hours of a film that’s likely to captivate your attention and then start that TV series that you never had time to watch at home. You’ll easily be able to waste away a few hours getting into Entourage, The Walking Dead or Breaking Bad.

Your Device

Pack your tablet or use your mobile phone. As great as those screens are on the plane, they’re not quite as easy to browse as our own device. Plus, this way you can ensure that you have everything you need on it. Get all of the movies and TV series that you know you’ll enjoy watching and always be sure to take a fully charged device; there’s nothing worse than making it onto the plane to see that your tablet needs charging.

Reading

This is another go-to tactic when trying to think of things to do during your time on the aircraft. Pack a couple of books into your hand luggage and use up your time with your favourite novel, educational book or maybe even a small booklet on the language basics to prepare you for your time away. It always helps to learn the lingo that could help you communicate on your holiday. Make the most of your time and plan to bring your favourite magazines before reaching the airport, this way you won’t have to pay extortionate prices and you’ll be able to ensure you get the magazine of your choice.

Music Playlist

On many of the flights, you will now be able to enjoy a bundle of albums. The line-up includes greats such as Bob Marley, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson as well as current music. It could be a good idea to go through your phone beforehand and set up a couple of playlists that are likely to suit your mood while travelling. Maybe a few gentle songs to help sooth you to sleep and then some summer songs to excite you for your time away.

Get Productive

How often do we get time to ourselves these days? Everything’s a big rush, and when you arrive at your holiday spot, you won’t want to worry about work, organisation and other things that you haven’t done. So when you have hours to spare you may want to use them for the smaller things. Nobody wants to stare at spreadsheets prior to a break, but you might just want to finish off some obligatory reading for work, a book for a course, organise your phone apps or delete unwanted photos. Deleting those embarrassing selfies on your phone that you never want to see again could be a good place to start as you’ll be likely to require the space on your phone for your holiday snaps. There’s so much you could do with the chance to plan your eating and workout regime for when you get back home plus other must-do tasks.

Holiday Planning

As your excitement levels peak during travelling, you may wish to enhance that feeling with a light dose of planning. Have a look at the nearby attractions and start planning your trip. It’s great to have a little idea of what-to-do when you arrive at the hotel, so ensure that you get the most out of your holiday. Read through different reviews and things-to-do as you make your way. There’s so much for you to do from sightseeing to waterparks.

The above should be enough to keep you occupied during any flight. There will no doubt be times when you are itching to move around, so why not get up and have a walk? It’s important to stretch your legs and you should do so every couple of hours. If you are one of those lucky people that can manage to sleep on a plane, then take advantage of that too. You could catch up on some zzz’s before your non-stop holiday action. Make the most of your flight as you eagerly await your dream excursion.
