This week, the BBC reported that the Scottish government is putting Glasgow Prestwick Airport up for sale. This smaller airport is still a popular departing point for Ryanair flights, so how will this impact on those who plan on using the terminal in the near future? An airport for sale might sound like a bad thing, but isn’t necessarily the case…

Prestwick Airport Future

It has been owned by the Scottish government since 2013 and they have stated their intention was always to return it to commercial investors when the time was right. But just because it is now up for sale, this does not mean anything will chance for travellers any time soon. If local workers and holidaymakers were worried that this move means there will be no more airport, then their fears can be alleviated. As part of the conditions of any sale, the new owners must continue to operate the site as an airport as well as ensuring investment in it. Although there are plans to expand Prestwick’s capacity for space aviation, this indicates that it’s future as a departure point for holiday flights is secure.

Prestwick Airport Benefits and Parking

So what does the airport currently offer passengers? Well, although its location isn’t bang in the centre of Glasgow, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It has excellent transport links including its own train station with regular services to the city, a direct bus service to and from Glasgow and it’s ideally placed for drivers coming from Glasgow and other areas on the west coast of Scotland. And if you’re putting together your own holiday package that includes some excellent value Ryanair flights, then your transport to the airport doesn’t have to cost the earth.

If you’d rather travel to the terminal on your own steam than by public transport, there are lots of cheap Prestwick Airport parking options available. It may not be a large airport, but its location means there is plenty of space for parking on-site. This could well be the best value option if you live in Glasgow but like the look of the flight prices from this location. It’s easy to find a great discount on long or short stay parking here on Parking at Airports, and the earlier you book, the better the chance of securing a lower price.

So even though the future of Prestwick Airport may look slightly uncertain, it should still remain a useful departure point for Scottish holidaymakers. And perhaps even a much better one if investment in the site comes to pass! But for the time being, you can still plan a value for money break by flying from this terminal – not only in terms of cheap available flights, but also cheap and convenient airport parking.
